The Crimson Bed
is a historical romance set in Victorian London of the 1850’s.
What is the Crimson Bed? It is the dark, sensual Feminine side of every man and woman. Women dwell in it with ease and familiarity while men are fascinated and repelled by it, constantly struggling to free themselves from its devouring allure. The Crimson Bed is an ancient, carved oak bed and yet it is also a symbol and a container of many secrets. Handed down through the female line, it belongs to Maria Templeton who takes her secrets to the grave. It passes then to her daughter, Ellie, who lies in it dreaming of her thwarted passion for her childhood sweetheart, Alfie Dillinger. It excludes her husband Fred Thorpe who cannot forget a youthful misdemeanour and has unpleasant urges of his own that are like a canker in his soul, filling him with a shame that unmans him on his wedding night. These secrets lie hidden in their hearts and begin to work as poison that comes close to destroying their marriage and happiness, despite their love for one another, making them unable to truly mate and bond.
